PHOENIXVILLE — Hundreds of local residents gathered recently to help families struggling with hunger and food insecurity at the annual Empty Bowls event.

Sponsored by PACS (Phoenixville Area Community Services), the event was held from 5-8 p.m. on April 18 at the Technical College High School – Pickering Campus.

Guests donated $25 to enjoy a simple meal of soup and bread while helping to fight food insecurity in the Phoenixville community. Soups were also available for take-out.

After the meal, diners were able to take home their hand-painted empty bowl as a reminder that each day hundreds of families, including many children, go without a meal. The bowls were decorated by local artists.

While they dined, guests were treated to musical entertainment by Phoenixville Phortissimos and Crescendo Phoenixville.

In conjunction with Empty Bowls, PACS also held a raffle to raise money for its food pantry program.
